The Secret to Contentment

A warm fire is blazing, smells of turkey and pumpkin pie filter through each room, while sounds of laughter rise above the football game. I smile contentedly. Yes, I'm thankful for all my many blessings... too many to count, but the secret to contentment is not found in blessings.

"How grateful I am... I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little.

I know to live on almost nothing or with everything.

I have learned the secret to living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty,

with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need."

Phil. 4:10-13

Apostle Paul is saying that contentment is a state of "being" not a state of having.To have or have not is a question of ever changing circumstances, therefore happiness will remain but an allusion. But to know and rely on the One who holds the entire Universe up by The Word of His Power, therein is true Joy, therein is the secret to contentment. Remember today no matter what present challenge you face, if Christ is your source, you shall not be shaken. If Christ is your peace, you'll rest in the storm. If Christ is your life, you'll say as David did in the 23rd Psalm...Because the Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need.

Fresh Bread- Intimacy Devotional

Growing up, there was never a more pleasant memory than when Mom was baking bread. The aroma filled the house and we all waited in anticipation for a fresh slice of warm bread, oozing with butter and honey. It's inconceivable to imagine that I'd refuse Mom's fresh baked bread, or worse yet, grab a substitute of tasteless empty calories off the shelf instead. But isn't that what we do when it comes to Spiritual provision? We reach for substitutes and quick fixes rather than receive from the Bread of Life Himself.

The Day I Danced with Jesus

A year’s worth of planning and fund-raising finally neared its climactic fulfillment when we boarded our plane for Guatemala. No amount of daydreaming from the window seat could compete with our upcoming reality; it was so much more than I had ever imagined.

The beautiful scenic views of volcanic mountains nestled against the large expanse of pristine waters literally took my breath away. My camera was hard pressed to keep up with my constant demands. I was determined not to blink in case I’d miss something. The sights, sounds, and smells of a culture I never knew quickly became my own as I fell deeply in love. I knew I would never be the same when I took my first deep gaze into the piercing black pools of their cherub faces. The wide-open expanse of hungry hearts surrounded me and I plunged without thought into their depths of need. When the busyness of life weighs heavily upon you, slow down and listen to God's Heart.

'Close your eyes for a moment and escape with Me. Stop everything. Cease from activity and come like a child that is sleeping, and rest in My Love. All you must do is come. All apprehension, turmoil and shame melt away in the Presence of My consuming Love. Here in this place of safety with Me you will find rest for your soul. No foe can penetrate, no barrier separate, no obstacle depreciate the power of My Presence.'

Your Mess Becomes your Message

Hola! It's only been 5 days since I've returned from Guatemala...I still think in Spanish. :) Oh how I fell in love with the people and culture of the Atitlan Lake region! I can't wait to go back! I plan to blog individual memories and stories in upcoming weeks to broadcast God's amazing love. Today however, I wanted to remind you that your "mess" is no big deal for God. Whatever challenges, overcoming circumstances, problems, giants, mountains ... in your life right now, they become an opportunity for God to reveal Himself as "Everything" you need. Turning a crisis into a God-opportunity all depends on whether you are willing to "let go" and "let God." Simple, but not easy. It took me over 30 years to truly be willing to trust God with my heart. But when I finally did...... WOW...let me tell you, I have never been the same person since. Truly, God turned my mess into His message of Love, redemption, and grace. He wants to do the same thing for you. Right now. Right in this moment, bow your heart before Him and give Him everything....all the good, bad, and ugly. Offer yourself as a living sacrifice to God and watch as He puts all the fragments back together to form a stunning piece of "God-work." God promises in Romans 8 to work ALL things together for our good, when we love Him and are called according to His purposes. Not some things, the pretty things, or predictable things....but ALL things. This means the horrible, heart wrenching, tearful, sinful, inexplainable things as well. Rest beloved. God has made provision for You today. Turn from whatever it is that is keeping you from Intimacy with God and turn to, His everlasting Arms. I promise you He will turn your mess into His Message....and how beautiful are the feet of them that bring Good News. :)
